When you choose to take back control of your body, it’s easy to get distracted by all the other people who are doing the same thing, or trying to sell you on a particular way to do it. With so many self-published fitness buffs and proclaimed nutrition experts in our social media feeds, you see people who’ve been successful and people who are just starting out. You see friends and family, people at the gym, magazine models and athletes, all at different stages and success levels. And every single one of them is presenting themselves as doing an amazing job at every aspect of fitness and nutritious.
If you’re not careful, you may start comparing yourself to those people. And you may even start to feel like your efforts just don’t measure up. Like you should be “doing it better.” WE ALL DO IT. But before you start feeling guilty and berating yourself about how your efforts aren’t up to par, consider this:
Reality check! Every single one of the people you’re paying attention to is their own hot mess. People edit their lives on social media so they always look their very best. Even for those who admit to some faults, there’s most likely a lot of messy stuff they’re not sharing. Truth is, if you asked them, they’d tell you that they (like you) are just juggling all of the chaotic, messy details of life to the best of their ability, hoping they don’t drop and shatter any balls that can cause damage. JUST LIKE YOU. And guess what? IT’S OKAY.
Why? Because you are amazing. You are putting forth the best effort you can to try to make yourself better! You wake up every morning and do what needs to be done for your family, your spouse, your kids, your work, your community. You hold down the fort. You keep it together. Some days, barely. Some days you lose it! But so does everyone else. It’s what makes you normal. The fact that you keep showing up and pushing forward makes you amazing. Despite the world pulling you in a thousand directions, you are still able to make the effort and keep your priorities in check.
The lesson here? You can be a hot mess AND a success. Own that life can be a rat race and chaotic and crazy AND you can still follow a plan and make your own health a priority.
What about you? Do you ever feel like a hot mess, even when you’re doing your best?
